About A Foundation Liverpool

In Autumn 2006, A Foundation opened its Liverpool galleries on Greenland Street. Located in the heart of Liverpool’s old port area and moments from the River Mersey, Greenland Street comprises The Coach Shed, The Furnace and The Blade Factory. The architectural heritage of these spaces has been retained whilst providing world-class galleries for the exhibition of contemporary art.

Since opening A Foundation, Liverpool has shown works by over 200 artists ranging from emerging artists showing in Bloomberg New Contemporaries to those with significant international profiles.

A Foundation is committed to promoting Liverpool as a global platform for the production and exhibition of visual art and we work through sustainable collaborations with key local, national and international partners including; Arts Council England, Bluecoat, Ceri Hand, Contemporary Arts Society, European Biennial Network, Fact, Grizedale Arts, International Curators Forum, The John Moores Painting Prize, Liverpool Biennial, SUUM, Tate, VAIL and The Walker Arts Gallery.

Opportunities

Volunteer Tour Guides
During A Foundation Liverpool’s summer exhibitions, the gallery will be launching a new scheme of talks and tours aimed at introducing members of the public to contemporary art. We are looking for individuals who have a passion for contemporary art and are interested in working with our exhibitions team to devise and present talks to groups. This scheme is particularly aimed at engaging a more mature audience with contemporary art taking inspiration from the work of Tatsumi Orimoto which explores the relationship between himself and his ageing mother.

Volunteer Information Assistants
Volunteer duties will include meeting and greeting visitors to the gallery, providing information on exhibitions and events, stewarding events, helping with the opening and closing of the shows each day, collecting evaluation information from visitors, providing security for art works in the exhibition. The role would provide valuable experience of working in a contemporary art centre.

As with all voluntary work at A Foundation, we will cover up to £15 expenses per day (including food and travel) on production of receipts.

Education and Participation

A Foundation is committed to developing and encouraging new audiences for the visual arts. Through our programmes we aim to reach a wide range of participants and actively engage them in current debates and dialogues found in contemporary visual art. We are also keen to encourage schools and higher education visits to Greenland Street and if you would like to book a tour when the gallery is open please contact info@afoundation.org.uk.
